About the Blur & Pixelate Image
Before you share a screenshot or a photo, you often need to hide something in it: a face, a name, a number plate, an address or an account number. Blur & Pixelate Image lets you draw rectangles over those parts and pixelate them, blur them or cover them with a solid box.
The picture is edited in your browser and saved at its full resolution, in the same format where possible. Nothing is uploaded, and the saved copy contains no metadata such as the GPS location.
How to use it
- Click "Choose an image" or drag a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF file onto the box.
- Drag across the picture to draw a rectangle over each area you want to hide. Click a rectangle to move or resize it, or use "Add region" and the arrow keys.
- Choose Pixelate, Blur or Box. Set the strength, or the box colour, and check the preview.
- Click "Save image", then "Download".
Features
- Three ways to hide: Pixelate into large blocks, blur until details disappear, or cover with a solid colour.
- Several areas at once: Draw up to 50 rectangles. Every rectangle uses the same method and strength.
- Live preview: See the result while you draw, move and resize the rectangles.
- Full resolution: The effect is calculated again on the original pixels when you save, so the rest of the picture stays sharp.
- Private: The image never leaves your device, and the saved copy has no EXIF or GPS metadata.
Examples
Sharing a screenshot
Cover your email address and account number in a screenshot with a black box before you post it in a support forum.
Posting a street photo
Pixelate the faces of passers-by and the number plates of parked cars.
Limitations and notes
- For text such as card numbers, passwords or document numbers, use Box. Pixelated or blurred text can sometimes be made readable again.
- The saved image contains no metadata – the date, camera and GPS location are not copied.
- Areas are rectangles only, and all of them use the same method.
- Only the first frame of an animated GIF, PNG or WebP is used.
- GIF, BMP and AVIF images are saved as PNG, because browsers cannot write those formats. HEIC photos need to be converted with HEIC to JPG first.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is opened, edited and saved by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can someone undo the pixelation or blur?
The saved file does not contain the original pixels. But for short text, such as numbers, the blurred shapes can sometimes be guessed back by trying possible values. Use Box for text – a solid colour leaves nothing to guess from.
Is the quality of the rest of the image reduced?
JPG and WebP images are saved again at quality 92, which is close to the original. PNG images are saved without any loss.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Draw the rectangles with your finger; drag a rectangle to move it and its corner handles to resize it.
