About the EXIF Viewer & Remover

Photos carry hidden information: the camera or phone model, the exact date and time, the settings used and often the GPS position where the picture was taken. EXIF Viewer & Remover shows all of it and lets you remove it before you share a photo.

You can remove all metadata or only the location. Either way the picture itself is not re-compressed – only the metadata blocks are taken out of the file – so the quality stays exactly the same. Everything happens in your browser; your photos are not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose "Remove all" or "Remove location only" at the top.
  2. Click "Choose images" or drag up to 20 photos onto the box.
  3. Read what each photo contains. A warning appears when a photo includes the place where it was taken.
  4. Click "Download" under a photo to save the cleaned copy, or "Download all (ZIP)" for every photo at once.

Features

  • See everything: Camera, lens, date, settings, GPS coordinates and the complete list of EXIF, XMP and IPTC tags.
  • Remove all or only the location: Strip every tag, or keep date and camera details and remove just the GPS position and place names.
  • No quality loss: The image data is copied byte for byte. Only metadata is removed, so nothing is re-compressed.
  • Stays upright and true to colour: The orientation and colour profile are kept, so photos do not turn sideways or change colour.
  • Many photos at once: Clean up to 20 JPG, PNG or WebP files and download them together as a ZIP.

Examples

Selling something online

Photos taken at home can reveal your address through GPS. Choose "Remove location only" before you post them on a marketplace.

Sharing holiday photos

Check which photos contain a location, then remove all metadata from the ones you share publicly.

Checking a photo you received

See when a picture was taken and with which camera or phone, without installing any software.

Limitations and notes

  • Metadata can be removed from JPG, PNG and WebP files. HEIC, AVIF and TIFF files can be viewed only – convert HEIC photos with HEIC to JPG, which leaves no metadata.
  • GIF and BMP files do not store EXIF metadata.
  • Maker notes (camera-specific data inside EXIF) are not shown, but they are removed with "Remove all".
  • "Remove location only" also removes XMP and IPTC blocks that name a place, together with any other data in those blocks.
  • Information in the file name itself is not changed.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are read and cleaned by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or stored.

Does removing EXIF reduce quality?

No. The compressed image data is copied unchanged; only the metadata blocks are left out. The file usually becomes a little smaller.

What does "Remove location only" keep?

The date and time, camera and lens, exposure settings, orientation and colour profile. It removes the GPS coordinates and any XMP or IPTC block that names a city, region or country.

Why is the orientation kept when I remove all metadata?

Many phones store photos sideways and use the orientation tag to show them upright. Without it the photo would appear rotated, so a minimal tag with only the orientation is kept.

Do social networks remove EXIF anyway?

Many large platforms strip metadata, but messaging apps, e-mail, cloud links and many websites pass the original file on. Removing it yourself is the only way to be sure.
