About the HEIC to JPG

iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container). The format keeps files small, but many websites, Windows programs and older devices cannot open it. HEIC to JPG converts these photos to JPG or PNG, which work everywhere.

Safari can open HEIC itself; in Chrome, Edge and Firefox the tool uses libheif, an open-source HEIC decoder that runs in your browser. Your photos are converted on your device and never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose JPG or PNG under "Convert to". For JPG, adjust the quality if you like (92 by default).
  2. Click "Choose HEIC photos" or drag up to 20 .heic or .heif files onto the box.
  3. Each photo is converted as soon as it is added. The first conversion downloads the converter (about 1.5 MB) from this site.
  4. Download each photo, or click "Download all" to get them as one ZIP file.

Features

  • Works in every browser: Safari decodes HEIC itself; Chrome, Edge and Firefox use the libheif decoder in a background thread.
  • JPG or PNG: JPG for small files that open everywhere, PNG for lossless copies.
  • Batch conversion: Convert up to 20 photos at once and download them together as a ZIP.
  • Correct orientation: Rotation stored in the HEIC file is applied, so photos come out upright.
  • Private: Photos never leave your device, and the converted copies contain no location or other metadata.

Examples

Uploading to a website

A form only accepts JPG. Convert the iPhone photo with quality 92 and upload the result.

Opening photos on Windows

Photos copied from an iPhone to a Windows PC will not open. Convert the whole folder in one go and download the ZIP.

Limitations and notes

  • Only the main picture of a HEIC file is converted. Bursts and other extra images inside the file are skipped.
  • Converted photos contain no metadata – the date, camera and GPS location are not copied.
  • Live Photo video and depth data are not included.
  • Photos larger than 100 megapixels are not supported.
  • The first conversion downloads the converter (about 1.5 MB), so it needs a connection to this site.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Decoding and conversion happen in your browser; the converter itself is downloaded from this website, not from a third party.

Why is the JPG larger than the HEIC file?

HEIC uses a more efficient compression than JPG. At a similar quality, a JPG is usually larger. Lower the quality to make it smaller.

Is the date the photo was taken kept?

No. The converted file has no metadata. If you need the date, note it before converting – the EXIF Viewer & Remover can show it.

Can I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC?

Yes. In Settings › Camera › Formats, choose "Most Compatible" to save new photos as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC.
