About the CSV to JSON Converter

The CSV to JSON converter turns a spreadsheet export into JSON, and JSON back into CSV. With a header row, each line becomes an object whose names come from the first row; without one, each line becomes a list.

It reads CSV the way the standard (RFC 4180) describes it: cells in quotes may contain commas, line breaks and doubled quotes. The delimiter is found automatically, so comma, semicolon and tab-separated files from Excel, Google Sheets or a database all work.

Your data is converted in the browser. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe for customer lists, exports and other private files.

How to use it

  1. Choose CSV → JSON or JSON → CSV.
  2. Paste the text, or press Open file to load a .csv, .tsv, .txt or .json file of up to 10 MB.
  3. For CSV, check the delimiter, whether the first row has the names, and whether numbers should become numbers.
  4. Read the result; problems such as an unclosed quote are shown with their line.
  5. Copy the result or download it as data.json or data.csv.

Features

  • Both directions: CSV to JSON objects or lists, and JSON lists of objects or arrays to CSV.
  • Real CSV parsing: Quoted cells with commas, line breaks and quotes inside are read correctly.
  • Delimiter detection: Comma, semicolon and tab are recognised automatically, or chosen by hand.
  • Number types: Numbers, true, false and null become JSON values; codes like 007 stay text.
  • Spreadsheet-ready CSV: The downloaded CSV has a UTF-8 BOM so Excel shows accented letters correctly.

Examples

Spreadsheet to API

Export a sheet as CSV and turn it into a JSON array for a test request.

European CSV

A file with semicolons and decimal commas is read with the semicolon found automatically.

API response to Excel

Paste a JSON list of objects and download a CSV with one column per field.

Limitations and notes

  • Texts and files are limited to 10 MB.
  • Nested objects are written as JSON text in one CSV cell; they are not spread over several columns.
  • Numbers with thousands separators or decimal commas (1,000 or 3,5) stay text in JSON.
  • Excel (.xlsx) files are not read; save them as CSV first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert CSV to JSON?

Choose CSV → JSON, paste the CSV or open the file, and copy or download the JSON result.

My file uses semicolons. Does that work?

Yes. The delimiter is detected automatically; you can also choose comma, semicolon or tab yourself.

Why does 007 stay a string?

JSON numbers cannot start with zeros, and such values are usually codes, so they are kept as text.

What JSON can be turned into CSV?

A list of objects (each object is a row) or a list of lists. The columns are all names that appear, in the order they first appear.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and the files stay on your device.
