About the Countdown Timer
This countdown timer counts down from any time you set, up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds, and rings an alarm when the time is up. Type hours, minutes and seconds, or pick a preset from 1 to 60 minutes.
While it runs you can pause and resume, add a minute, or reset. When the time is up the screen says so, the tab title changes, and the timer keeps counting how long ago it ended, so you know how late you are.
Everything runs in your browser. The alarm is made with the Web Audio API and is set on the audio clock when you press Start, so it rings on time even when the tab is in the background.
How to use it
- Type the hours, minutes and seconds, or press a preset such as 5 min. Minutes and seconds above 59 are fine: 90 minutes becomes 1:30:00.
- Choose an alarm sound and press Play sound to hear it.
- Press Start (or the Space bar). The time left and a progress bar appear.
- Use Pause and Resume, +1 min to add a minute, or Reset to go back to the time you set.
- When the time is up, press Stop alarm (or Space). Restart runs the same time again.
Features
- Alarm that rings on time: Choose a beep, a bell or a chime. The alarm repeats for up to a minute until you stop it.
- Presets and free input: One-click presets from 1 to 60 minutes, or any time up to 99:59:59 in hours, minutes and seconds.
- Add a minute: Extend a running or paused timer by a minute at a time without starting over.
- Time since the end: After the alarm, the timer shows how long ago the time ran out, for example +0:45.
- Full screen, tab title and keyboard: Show huge digits in full screen, see the time left in the browser tab, and use Space and R to control the timer.
Examples

Workout intervals
Use a 1-minute preset for a plank, then Restart for the next set.
Limitations and notes
- On phones the alarm may not ring while the tab is in the background or the screen is off, because the phone pauses the page. Tick "Keep the screen on" and leave the page open.
- On iPhone the silent switch also mutes the alarm.
- The longest countdown is 99:59:59.
- The timer stops when you close or reload the tab or move to another page of this site, and nothing is saved.
- The timer does not send notifications; the alarm sound, the screen and the tab title tell you the time is up.
Frequently asked questions
Will the alarm ring if I switch to another tab?
On a computer, yes: the sound is set on the audio clock when you press Start, so it plays on time even in a background tab. On phones keep the page open with the screen on.
Can I set a timer longer than an hour?
Yes. Type hours, minutes and seconds up to 99:59:59, or type the minutes alone, for example 90.
Why do I hear nothing?
Check that the alarm sound is not set to No sound, that the device is not muted, and on iPhone that the silent switch is off. Press Play sound to test.
Can I add time while the timer runs?
Yes. Press +1 min as often as you need, while running or paused.
Is the timer accurate?
It counts down from the end time it calculated when you pressed Start, so it does not drift when the browser updates the page less often. The display rounds up to the next whole second.
