About the Image Color Picker
The Image Color Picker tells you the exact color of any point in a picture. Open a photo, a screenshot or a logo, click where you want, and get the color as a HEX code, an RGB value and an HSL value, ready to copy into CSS, a design tool or a document.
A magnifier shows the pixels around the pointer, so you can hit the right one even on thin lines and small text, and the arrow keys move the pick one pixel at a time. Under the picture the tool also lists the main colors of the whole image – from 4 to 10 – with how much of the picture each one covers.
Everything happens in your browser: the picture is not uploaded, and the colors are read straight from its pixels. Very large pictures are read at 4,096 pixels on their long side, which keeps every detail you can point at.
How to use it
- Choose a picture or drop it on the page.
- Click or drag on the picture. The magnifier shows the pixels under the pointer.
- Read the color under "Picked color" and copy its HEX, RGB or HSL code with the copy buttons.
- To fine-tune, click the picture and move the pick with the arrow keys (Shift moves 10 pixels).
- See the main colors under "Main colors", choose how many with the number buttons and copy one or all of them.
Features
- Exact pixel colors: The color comes from the pixel itself, not from a blurred average, as HEX, RGB and HSL.
- Magnifier: An 11 by 11 pixel magnifier follows the pointer, with the pixel you would pick marked in the middle.
- Main colors: A palette of 4, 6, 8 or 10 main colors, largest first, with the share of the picture each one covers.
- On to the converter: Open the picked color in the Color Code Converter to check its contrast with text.
- Private: The picture is read in your browser and never uploaded.

Checking a screenshot

Limitations and notes
- Pictures larger than 4,096 pixels on their long side are read at that size, so a single pixel of the original may be merged with its neighbours.
- The codes give the color without transparency; for see-through pixels the opacity is shown separately.
- Colors are read as your browser decodes the picture. Pictures with a wide color profile can give slightly different values than in an image editor.
- HEIC photos cannot be opened here; convert them with HEIC to JPG first.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get the HEX code of a color in a picture?
Open the picture, click the color and copy the HEX code under "Picked color".
Can I pick a single pixel precisely?
Yes. Use the magnifier to aim, then move the pick with the arrow keys one pixel at a time.
How are the main colors chosen?
The picture is reduced and its pixels are split into groups of similar colors (median cut). Each group’s average is a main color, listed by how much of the picture it covers.
Why does a see-through pixel show a note?
HEX, RGB and HSL codes describe a color without its transparency, so the tool shows the opacity separately.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The picture is opened and read in your browser only.
