About the Spin the Wheel
Spin the Wheel picks one item from a list in a way everyone can watch: type the items, press Spin and see where the pointer stops. Use it to choose a name from a class, a winner for a giveaway, what to eat tonight or who goes first.
The result is drawn the moment you press Spin, with your browser’s secure random number generator, so every slice has exactly the same chance. The wheel then turns five to eight more times and slows down to stop at a random spot inside that slice – the animation shows the result, it does not decide it.
The wheel holds 2 to 50 items. An item typed on two lines gets two slices and twice the chance, and "Take the picked item out" lets you draw several winners in a row without repeats. Nothing you type leaves your device.
How to use it
- Type the items in the box, one per line. Empty lines are skipped.
- Press Spin, or click the wheel.
- Wait for the wheel to stop: the item under the pointer is shown as the result.
- To draw again without the same item, tick "Take the picked item out before the next spin".
- The last 10 results are listed under the wheel.
Features
- Fair spin: The winning slice is drawn with secure randomness before the wheel moves, so every slice has the same chance.
- Up to 50 items: Each line is one slice, in its own color with readable text. Long items are shortened on the wheel.
- Weighted by repeats: Type an item twice to give it two slices and twice the chance.
- Draw without repeats: Take each picked item out before the next spin to draw a first, second and third place.
- Private: The wheel runs in your browser. Your list is not uploaded or stored.
Examples
Picking a student
A teacher pastes the class list and spins to choose who answers the next question.
Giveaway winners
Paste the names of everyone who entered, tick "Take the picked item out" and spin three times for three winners.
What to eat
Keep the four starting dishes or type your own and let the wheel decide dinner.
Limitations and notes
- The wheel holds at most 50 items, so the slices stay readable.
- Long items are shortened on the wheel to fit their slice; the result shows them in full.
- The list and the results are not saved: reloading the page starts again with the example list.
- With "Take the picked item out", the item is removed from the list when you spin again, so at least two items must be left.
Frequently asked questions
Is the wheel fair?
Yes. The winning slice is drawn with your browser’s secure random number generator before the wheel turns, and every slice has the same chance.
Can I give one item a better chance?
Yes. Type it on more than one line: each line is its own slice.
How do I pick several winners?
Tick "Take the picked item out before the next spin" and spin once for each winner. Each picked item leaves the list before the next spin.
Why does the wheel keep turning after I press Spin?
The result is already decided; the wheel turns a few more times and slows down so everyone can watch it arrive.
Is my list sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored.
