About the Video to MP3
Video to MP3 saves the sound of a video as an audio file: a music video, a lecture, an interview or a voice memo you recorded with your phone camera. Choose MP3 for a small file that plays everywhere, or WAV for lossless sound.
You can keep the whole soundtrack or only a part of it by entering a start and end time. The video picture is left out, so the result is much smaller than the video.
Everything happens in your browser: the video is read and the sound is encoded on your device, and nothing is uploaded. The MP3 encoder (LAME) is downloaded the first time you save an MP3.
How to use it
- Choose a video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB) or drop it on the page.
- Choose MP3 or WAV. For MP3 choose the quality: 128, 192 or 320 kbps.
- To keep only part of the sound, tick "Only part of the video" and enter the start and end, for example 1:23.5.
- Press Extract audio and wait for the progress bar; you can cancel at any time.
- Listen to the result and press Download to save it.
Features
- MP3 or WAV: MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps, or 16-bit WAV that keeps the sound exactly as decoded.
- Whole video or a part: Type a start and end time to save just the song, quote or section you need.
- Common video formats: Works with MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files whose sound your browser can decode, such as AAC, Opus or MP3.
- Preview before saving: Play the result in the page, check its length and size, then download it.
- Private by design: Your video never leaves your device; no account or upload is needed.
Examples
Lecture recording
Save a 90-minute lecture video as a 128 kbps MP3 of about 86 MB to listen to on the go.
Song from a video
Enter 0:45 to 4:10 to keep only the song from a concert clip.
Editing audio
Export WAV to work on the sound in an audio editor without another round of compression.
Limitations and notes
- Your browser must be able to decode the sound of the video (WebCodecs): a recent Chrome or Edge, Safari 16.4 or later, or Firefox 130 or later.
- Videos protected by DRM, such as purchased films or streaming downloads, cannot be read.
- Re-encoding to MP3 loses a little quality compared with the original sound; choose WAV to avoid it.
- Very long videos take time and memory; WAV files are about 10 MB per minute of stereo sound.
- Only use videos you have the right to copy.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert MP4 to MP3?
Choose the MP4 file, keep MP3 selected and press Extract audio. When it is done, press Download.
Which MP3 quality should I choose?
192 kbps sounds good for most music and speech. Use 128 kbps for smaller speech recordings and 320 kbps for the best music quality.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is read and converted in your browser, and the result is saved straight to your device.
Why does it say the video has no sound?
The file has no audio track, for example a screen recording made without sound.
Can I extract audio from a YouTube video?
Only from a video file you have on your device. The tool does not download videos from websites.
