About Rotate Video & Remove Audio
Rotate Video & Remove Audio fixes a video that plays sideways or upside down, mirrors a selfie video, or takes the sound out of a clip before you share it. It works with MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files and saves the result in the same format.
MP4 and MOV files have a rotation setting that players read, so turning them only changes that setting: it takes a second, the picture is not encoded again and nothing is lost. Mirroring, WebM and MKV files (which have no such setting) and the option to turn the picture itself encode the picture again, which takes longer and lowers the quality very slightly.
Removing the sound keeps the picture exactly as it is. Everything happens in your browser, so the video is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose a video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), or drop it on the page.
- Press Rotate left, Rotate right or Rotate 180° until the preview is the right way up.
- Tick Mirror left to right or Remove the sound if you need them.
- Press Save video and wait for it to finish; you can cancel at any time.
- Watch the result, then press Download.
Features
- Turn without quality loss: MP4 and MOV turn by their rotation setting in seconds, with every frame kept as it was.
- 90°, 180° and 270°: Turn left or right by quarter turns and see the result in the preview before saving.
- Mirror: Flip the picture left to right, for example to undo the mirror of a front camera.
- Remove the sound: Save the video without its sound track; the picture is copied unchanged.
- Same format: MP4 stays MP4, MOV stays MOV, WebM stays WebM and MKV stays MKV.
Examples
Sideways phone video
A video recorded with the phone held the wrong way plays on its side: rotate it right once and save it in a second.
Mirrored selfie
Mirror a front-camera clip so the writing on a sign reads the right way.
Silent clip
Remove the background noise of a screen recording before you add it to a presentation.
Limitations and notes
- Some older players and editors ignore the rotation setting of MP4 and MOV files and show the video on its side; tick "Turn the picture itself" for them.
- Mirroring, turning WebM or MKV and turning the picture itself need a browser that can encode video (WebCodecs), such as a recent Chrome, Edge or Safari, and take longer for long videos.
- Videos are saved in their own format; to make an MP4 from another format, use the Video Compressor.
- The result is held in memory until you download it, so very large videos need a device with enough memory.
Frequently asked questions
Does rotating an MP4 lower its quality?
No. MP4 and MOV files are turned by their rotation setting; the picture is copied without encoding it again.
Why does my rotated video still play sideways in one app?
That app ignores the rotation setting. Rotate the video again with "Turn the picture itself (slower)" ticked.
Can I rotate and remove the sound at the same time?
Yes. Choose the turn, tick Remove the sound and save once.
Why does mirroring take longer?
A mirror cannot be stored as a setting that every player understands, so the picture is encoded again.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is changed in your browser and saved straight to your device.
